Careers at IG-Smart

Build Expertise That Matters

Work on consequential problems across data protection, cyber security, AI governance, regulatory assurance and digital health.

IG-Smart is a specialist governance, risk and assurance consultancy. We are interested in exceptional people at different career stages — from students and early-career professionals to experienced practitioners and specialist consultants.

We value

  • Judgement
  • Integrity
  • Curiosity
  • Evidence
  • Clarity
  • Accountability
  • Continuous Learning

Serious Work. Supportive Environment.

Our work can involve complex regulation, sensitive information, emerging technology and decisions with significant organisational consequences.

That demands high professional standards. It should also create an environment where talented people can ask questions, develop expertise and learn from experienced practitioners.

Our approach is simple:

  1. Real Responsibility
  2. Practical Learning
  3. Senior Support
  4. Professional Development

Whether you join as an experienced specialist or spend a short period with us as an intern, the objective is the same:

Do meaningful work — and leave stronger than you arrived.

Why Build Your Career With IG-Smart?

Work That Matters

Depending on your role and experience, you may contribute to work across:

  • Data Protection & Information Governance
  • Cyber Security
  • AI Governance & Assurance
  • Regulatory Assurance
  • Supplier Risk
  • Digital Health & Clinical Safety
  • Board Governance & Resilience

You will see how regulation, standards and governance principles translate into real organisational decisions.

Learn From Practice

Consulting requires more than knowing what a regulation or framework says.

It requires understanding:

  1. The Organisation
  2. The Risk
  3. The Evidence
  4. The Constraint
  5. The Decision

Our people develop by learning how experienced practitioners analyse evidence, communicate uncertainty, challenge assumptions and develop proportionate solutions.

Work Across Disciplines

Modern governance problems rarely fit neatly into one discipline. AI can raise privacy, security, legal and supplier questions. Digital health can bring clinical safety, cyber security, information governance and regulatory requirements together.

That creates opportunities to develop both specialist expertise and broader professional judgement.

Who We Look For

There is no single route into IG-Smart.

Relevant backgrounds may include:

  • Privacy
  • Law
  • Cyber Security
  • Information Governance
  • Risk
  • Compliance
  • AI Governance
  • Technology
  • Digital Health
  • Clinical Safety
  • Audit & Assurance
  • Research
  • Project & Programme Delivery

Technical knowledge matters. So does how you think and work.

We particularly value people who:

  • act with integrity;
  • ask good questions;
  • distinguish evidence from assumption;
  • communicate complex issues clearly;
  • take responsibility for their work;
  • understand context and consequence; and
  • recognise that good advice must work in the organisation receiving it.

Opportunities at IG-Smart

Opportunities may include permanent, part-time, fractional, associate or specialist consulting arrangements according to business requirements.

Depending on the opportunity, competence and confidentiality requirements, participants may contribute to research, policy and evidence review, professional writing and other supervised consultancy activities.

Apprenticeships

Where suitable roles, business requirements and training arrangements exist, IG-Smart may consider apprenticeship opportunities relevant to our work.

Potential disciplines can include:

  • Cyber Security

  • Business Administration
  • Project Delivery
  • Digital & Professional Services

Specific opportunities will set out their entry requirements, training arrangements, responsibilities and progression pathway.

Associates & Specialist Consultants

We also work with experienced independent specialists where client requirements call for additional expertise.

We are particularly interested in practitioners who combine deep expertise with clear communication, collaborative working, evidence-led outputs and a strong understanding of professional boundaries.

From an IG-Smart intern

“It was an absolute pleasure, and by far, my favourite legal experience to work as an intern at IG-Smart Ltd. Throughout my internship, Michael and his team were very welcoming, friendly and supportive in ensuring that I had the best possible learning experience. Michael provided me with a wide range of opportunities to learn as much as I could within the space of two weeks. For example, I was able to observe numerous calls with clients, lawyers and other professionals, through which I gained a thorough understanding of how GDPR compliance works in practice and the complexities surrounding the implementation of various safeguards and policies. Michael also allowed me to write draft responses to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and clients, which significantly improved my understanding of data protection laws, commercial awareness and strengthened my legal writing skills. Most importantly, he was always available to clarify any doubts that I had regarding data protection and the realities of working in this field. Overall, I cannot thank Michael enough for this amazing opportunity, and I wish the entire team all the very best!”
